I should be taking notes...

Don't tell my Sunday school teacher that I was a bit bored in class yesterday.

So when Garret's teacher poked her head in and beckoned me with her eyes (non-romantically) I shuffled out a little too excitedly.

"We have a little problem"  She said with a grin.

sniff, sniff

"OK, thanks.  I'll have him back in class soon."

We strolled to the car slowly so to enjoy every drop of rain that tickled our faces.  Luckily I had just settled for a messy pony-tail that day.  From the car it was another walk to the garbage bins.  Garret, with a renewed freshness, wiggled and giggled next to me.  He had to pause to stomp on the cement walkway, tap a bush, and twirl once or twice.  Once inside we stopped to admire a glass door, the carpet, a drinking fountain, more carpet, a fake plant or two.  I nodded with a smile to the other people in the halls.  Garret greeted others with a grin or an arm flap.  And then he was back, welcomed by his classmates.

"Hi Garret!  Where did you go?"

(more Garret giggles)

Back with my classmates we had a nice discussion about how to be better teachers/leaders.  How to uplift our students and families.  How to apply the Gospel in our everyday lives.  I appreciated the reminder to study the scriptures daily so that we're better prepared for those sudden teaching moments.

And I'm glad I was prepared to learn from Garret when he took me twirling in the rain.

Emo Philips & a picture of Suzie

"Well, my brother says Hello. So, hooray for speech therapy."

"At my lemonade stand I used to give the first glass away free and charge five dollars for the second glass. The refill contained the antidote."

I was in San Fransisco once, walking along the Golden Gate Bridge, and I saw this guy on the bridge about to jump. So I thought I'd try to stall and detain him, long enough for me to put the film in. I said, "Don't jump!" and he turns... You've heard of the elephant man. He was kind of like that, he had a, well, you could say he had the head of a horse. And my heart went out to him. I said, "Why the long face?"
He said, "'Cause all my life people have called me mean names like horses-head or Flicka or chess-piece or Trigger..."
I said, "Well, don't worry about it, Ed. It can't be that bad."
He said, "Why was I put on this Earth?"
I said, "My friend, anywhere else you wouldn't stand a chance."
He said, "Nobody loves me."
I said, "God loves you, you silly ninny."
He said, "How do you know there's a God?"
I said, "Of course there's a God. Do you think that billions of years ago a bunch of molecules floating around at random could someday have had the sense of humor to make you look like that?"
He said, "I do believe in God."
I said, "Are you a Christian or a Jew?"
He said, "A Christian."
I said, "Me too. Protestant or Catholic?"
He said, "Protestant."
I said, "Me too! What franchise?"
He says, "Baptist."
I said, "Me too! Northern Baptist or Southern Baptist?"
He says, "Northern Baptist."
I said, "Me too! Northern Conservative Baptist or Northern Liberal Baptist?"
He says, "Northern Conservative Baptist."
I say, "Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist or Northern Conservative Reform Baptist?"
He says, "Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist."
I say, "Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region or Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Eastern Region?"
He says, "Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region."
I say, "Me too! Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1879 or Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912?"
He says, "Northern Conservative Fundamentalist Baptist Great Lakes Region Council of 1912."
I said, "Die, heretic!" And I pushed him over!

meh

During my turn staying up with Garret I've been passing the time with some memorization skills.  (There are 3 or 4 of you that will get this...)

Becky- bubbles
Garth- million dollar man
Tina- England
Scott- Nebraska
Kelly- ran a race in her SWEAT PANTS
etc, etc...

Well that is entertainment in itself but I've also made some coffee breakfast cake.  Burnt on the edges, perfection in between.  And while I'm enjoying that there is a little plastic goat staring at me from across the counter.  Suzi needs to put her toys away.

Do you see why I haven't blogged in a week??  My mind is mush and everything else is business as usual.

I need a haircut.

late night reviews

So recently I've had good luck with the movies.  So I'm sharing it with THE WORLD.

Whip It I've been ordering girlfriends to go see this one.  (Phase 1 in forming my own roller derby team...)  The main actress is the girl from Juno and she is perfect.  The dynamics with her mother are so well done.  I'm also a BIG fan of Julliette Lewis though I'm not familiar with many of her movies.  (She's incredible in The Other Sister.  Have you seen it??  You've GOT TO.)

The Other Sister- 'Cause I just thought of it...

The Maiden Heist-  This one is strangely charming.  The magic is the combination of Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken, and the other guy.  (Can't remember his name, but he's delightful.)  If you're not yet a HUGE fan of Walken, then this movie ought to convert you.

Sweet Land- I've seen this twice now and I'll see it again I'm sure.  Oh my goodness.  It's a slow, sweet, funny, heart warming, thoughtful, GOOD, independent film.  Those of you who've seen it- didn't you LOVE the scenes with that squeaky bottom stair step?? haha!  And did you cry at that one scene?  You know you did...

WARNING: The latter two have bare-bottom scenes that are so funny...

Have you seen these?  Do you agree with my review?  Any recent favorites you want to tell me about?

Yes, I'm up late again.  My son is ummmmm...  cute.

P.S.  The last post was on the 1-year anniversary of the blog.  One year of consistent journaling!  YAY ME!
